7 Last Words for the Dying

On this past Friday, I was sent this picture from my Aunt and I don’t celebrate “Good Friday” as I do Passover, but I instantly got this message about what people need to do before they die and wanted to share this with others.

  1. “Father forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing” Luke 23:34

Make sure that you have forgiven everyone no matter what they have done to you – whether they did it intentionally or in ignorance of understanding what they have done – just forgive them. This is not a time to hold on to old grudges or being right- forgiveness is key

Prayer “Father I want to forgive everyone that has ever wronged me, it doesn’t matter what they have done, small or big, or how much it hurt me, whether they did it intentionally or in ignorance, I forgive them.

  1. “Today you will be with me in paradise” Luke 23: 43

Understand that paradise is a real destination and that it doesn’t matter how you lived your life to that point that you can ask for forgiveness and be forgiven by the Father. Ask God to accept you as His son or daughter.

Prayer: Dear God, I understand that Heaven is a real place and I ask you to please forgive me for all of my wrongdoings, I was a sinner and I thank you for your forgiveness for everything I have ever done that was contrary to Love, to your Word and to obedience. Please accept me as your son/daughter, so I can live with you forever

  1. Woman behold your son… Behold your mother” John 19:26-27

You need to release your loved ones to be loved by others. Help your family, friends and loved ones to support each other and to release you to go to finish your race. Give them permission to carry on with living their lives with God and without you.

Prayer: Help me to release those that I love to be loved by others.  Please remember my family, friends and loved ones and help them to support each other and to release me as I have now come to the end of my race. I give them full freedom to carry on with living their lives and I ask you to be everything I can’t be for them. Help them to let me go

  1. “My God My God why hath You Forsaken me” Mark 15:34

Let go of every heavy burden because Jesus bore the burden of all humanity past and present to save you. He felt the separation and weight of everything you have ever done. All of your sin, iniquity, and transgressions have been dealt with.

Prayer: I let go of every heavy burden thank you for sending Jesus to carry the burden of all humanity past and present and for saving me

  1. “I am thirsty” John 19:28

Ask for compassion- its ok to be weak at this point and need the compassion of those caring for you. Let others love you by meeting your needs. (physical, emotional, and spiritual)

Prayer: Thank you for meeting my every need right to the very end. (physical, emotional, and spiritual). I may be weak in body but you have provided others to help me with this time of transition. Thank you for those people that are meeting my needs during this time. I bless them for their love and compassion

  1. “It is finished” John 19:30

Release and let go. Understand that when you have finished your race here on earth and accept the end of your life on this dimension of eternity. Make peace with the finality of death and accept your eventual transition from this life to the next.

Prayer: I am ok to release and let go.  I have finished the task you set for me here on earth and I accept the end of my life on this dimension of eternity. I am at peace because death has no sting for me and I choose to accept this transition from this life to the next

  1. “Father into your hands I commit my spirit” Luke 23:46

Commit your spirit back to God. Remember that you are a spirit being and that everything flesh will die but everything spirit will continue to live.  Allow the separation of your spirit, soul, and body. Do this with confidence that of the first 6 steps that you have done assure this safe passage for you.

Prayer: Father into your hands I commit my spirit. Thank you for allowing me to be a spirit being in this mortal temporary body. This flesh may die and stay here in the ground in this earth, but this spirit and soul will live with you for eternity.

** These 7 steps can be done today, you do not need to wait until your last breath to say them. You can do all 7 daily until that final day.
